A Partnership to benefit RMHC

NORFOLK, VA- Since 2017, the Roofing Alliance has connected its members with local RMH Chapters to repair, replace and maintain the roofs of U.S. Ronald McDonald House programs. This collaboration helps to ensure that families staying at Ronald McDonald House Programs have a comfortable place to stay while their children are receiving treatment.

To date, the Roofing Alliance has “adopted” the roofs of 165 U.S. Ronald McDonald House Programs. Locally, J D Miles & Sons adopted the House in Norfolk. “I called Sherri Miles to let her know we needed to replace our roof in 2020. The team at J D Miles & Sons have embraced the project! They came to measure, and Sherri brought samples of shingles we could choose from. We are thrilled to be partnering with a local company and are very thankful for their generous support, especially during these uncertain times,” said Elyse Brown, Executive Director.

The founder and owner, J.D. Miles established J.D. Miles & Sons in what was then Norfolk County as a roofing firm in 1910. The small roofing company grew over the years with several of the Miles children growing into the business. Joe Miles, Jr retired from his position as Chairman of the Board in 1993. He passed away in 1997 and passed the corporate reigns top J. Dudley Miles, III. Today, fourth generation of Miles family owners and operators, brother and sister team J.D. Miles, IV and Sherri Miles continue the strong values of community leadership and engagement their grandfather and father modeled.

Sherri Miles said, “We are proud to partner with the Ronald McDonald House in Norfolk, Virginia.  This is a special place for families to be near and with their children as they navigate serious health issues.  We are thankful to be able to keep them safe and dry as they keep their family connected and strong.”

GAF protects what matters most, not only through our products, but as neighbors and partners in the communities where we live and work. We leverage our time, talents and products and funds to help power the potential of our communities and partner with leading non-profits to support our key social impact priorities, Creating Disaster Resiliency, Helping Neighbors and Building Community. GAF generously supported the project at RMHC of Norfolk by donating roofing materials. Their generous support is sincerely appreciated.

RMHC of Norfolk opened in 1981 and has provided comfort and care to over 23,000 families. We provide each family with a private bedroom/bathroom, living areas, and playroom, kitchen and laundry facilities. Ronald McDonald House Charities® is a non-profit organization supported by contributions from our community.  Local McDonald’s restaurants help support the house through canister donations and special events. A small professional staff manages the house with volunteer support. Several national corporations provide in-kind donations including food, paper products, milk, laundry services and beverages.
